Where is the Wise Man?
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? (1 Corinthians 1:20 NKJV)
H. G. Wells, in his science fiction classic "The Time Machine", writes of a man who travels forward to what the author imagines the end of the world to be like. Wells adopts the atheistic eschatology that everything will decay, fall apart and the sun will burn out ending all life on earth. It is a hopeless and pathetic end. He resolves that if this is the way things end it only leaves man to "live as if it were not so" because the philosophy of meaninglessness gives no reason to go on. God, again, makes foolish the wisdom of the world. While the godless world system must live as if they didn't believe what they believe, believers are filled with a future that promises the hope and life of a future eternity with the loving Savior Jesus Christ, by whose life, death, resurrection, ascension and seating we are saved. While the world must look at what they have foolishly believed and pretend that it isn't true. Believers can live constantly and consistently in the truth of God's revealed Word. Awaiting the blessed hope of His appearing.
