Jude's Exhortation
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. - Jude 1:20-21 NASB
Jude is a beautiful and practical letter containing most precious direction for the believer. These instructions are valuable to believers on a very basic and wonderful level:
Building yourselves up - We are to be constantly growing and building both ourselves and each other up in the truth revealed in the Bible.
Praying in the Holy Spirit - Moment by moment fellowship with the Holy Spirit causes us to be in constant connection with the Lord God.
Keep yourselves in the Love of God - "Keep" here has the idea of keeping our eyes constantly fixed of the amazing love of God that was demonstrated for us by Christ at the Cross (Romans 5:8, 1 John 3:1)
Waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ - When the Lord returns for us in the Church it will be to receive, not what we deserve (death and hell), but eternal life.
We grow, individually and as a church body, as we heed Jude's instruction. As we grow in the Word of God, as we pray in the Spirit, as we focus upon God's amazing love, as we anxiously await the Lord's return, we are being transformed into the very image of Jesus Christ. In Christ, and in Christ alone, God has provided everything that we need for life and godliness. Rely upon HIS resources!
